NOTE ON BURMA
At the time of this DVD release, the
political situation in Burma is quite tense.
The Nobel Peace Prize Winner, AUNG SAN
SUU KYI, the democratically elected leader
of the country, is being held under house
arrest by the military government. She
has asked tourists not to visit Burma to
help reinforce international sanctions
against the dictatorship.
Some westerners do enter Burma to practice meditation at monasteries and centers
with Burmese teachers. This is purely for spiritual reasons and is an understood
exception to the boycott.
We, along with many of the international community, choose not to use the junta
selected names of Myanmar & Yangon, but rather Burma & Rangoon.
While these are the older colonial names, and also less than appropriate, we
wait for a free Burmese people to democratically choose the name for their country.
In the meantime we offer these images of sacred Burma as a way for you to connect
with these extraordinary people and their beautiful homeland. We encourage you
to keep informed about the current political situation in Burma through the international
support groups.
