ABOUT THE MUSIC
The soundtrack of this work is a remarkable
combination of live recordings made during
the shoot, classical recordings of ancient
music and contemporary music from each country.
This richness is complemented by original
theme music and the universal sounds of Harmonic
Chant.
The music from South East Asia features styles and instruments as varied as the
classical Saung Gauk (Harp) of Burma; the Khene, the giant mouth organ of Laos
to the centuries old Pi Phat ensemble of Thailand which includes gongs, xylophones
and cymbals.
Our collaboration with the world renowned singer and composer David Hykes with
The Harmonic Choir has been a remarkable experience. His ability to explore the
higher selfless emotions through chant gives DHARMA RIVER a deep vibrational
field. David's rare gifts, displayed here in his original score, allow the viewer
to open more fully to the inner journey of DHARMA RIVER.

BURMESE
CLASSICAL SONGS & DAW
YI YI THANT
The complete body of Burmese classical songs is usually referred to as the "Maha
Gita" meaning great or royal song. These were the songs of the royal Burmese
courts and form the basis of Burmese classical music.
The recordings included in DHARMA RIVER are performed by U Myint Maung on the
saung (harp) and sung by Daw Yi Yi Thant, who is a legendary singer of the classical
Mahagita repertoire. These recordings are from over 30 years ago and are used
here with the kind permission of Daw Yi Yi Thant to whom we are deeply grateful.
